Greek-inspired Chocolate Baklava

Ingredients

  • phyllo dough

    1 package

  • unsalted butter

    1 cup

  • chopped walnuts

    2 cups

  • dark chocolate chips

    1 cup

  • honey

    1 cup

  • ground cinnamon

    1 teaspoon

  • ground cloves

    1/2 teaspoon

  • lemon juice

    2 tablespoons

Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat.

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, dark chocolate chips, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.

  • Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

  • Spread half of the walnut-chocolate mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.

  • Repeat the layers with the remaining phyllo dough and walnut-chocolate mixture.

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

  • While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining the honey and lemon juice in a saucepan and heating it over low heat until well combined.

  • Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak in.

  • Let the baklava cool completely before serving. Enjoy this delightful fusion of Greek and chocolate flavors!
