Greek-inspired Chocolate Baklava
Ingredients
phyllo dough
1 package
unsalted butter
1 cup
chopped walnuts
2 cups
dark chocolate chips
1 cup
honey
1 cup
ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon
ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon
lemon juice
2 tablespoons
Steps
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, dark chocolate chips, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
Spread half of the walnut-chocolate mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
Repeat the layers with the remaining phyllo dough and walnut-chocolate mixture.
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining the honey and lemon juice in a saucepan and heating it over low heat until well combined.
Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak in.
Let the baklava cool completely before serving. Enjoy this delightful fusion of Greek and chocolate flavors!
