Mexican Spiced Chocolate Cake

Steps


  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add in the vegetable oil, buttermilk, coffee, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.

  • Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate ganache by melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water. Stir in the ground chili powder.
